Convert from print
Many books were written before the introduction of word processors, or were stored on media that has become unstable.
Using OCR technology, printed books can be converted to MS Word, then formatted to upload to e-book retailers
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software “reads” the shapes of letters on a printed page, and converts them to electronic text, as used by word processing programs.
The process is not infallible, and careful proofreading is required afterwards; however, the result is generally very good.
The resulting file can them be formatted for conversion to any of the formats used by e-readers
